Have you ever been to Denver or Miami? They are two completely different cities on two different sides of the country. Though I have never been to either city, and both of them are very different, I would love to go to either city just as much as the other. The differences and similarities in the weather, levels of poverty, airports, the sport teams, and all of the cool things you can do in and around each city are all going to be explained in this essay.
Denver and Miami have two completely different climates. It is much colder in Denver than in Miami and much more humid in Miami than Denver. The city of Denver itself has an altitude of about a mile. That is why it is called the mile high city. Miami has the ocean, beaches and is one of the most beautiful cities and the planet. Colorado is much cooler and snows during the winter and has several of the worlds best ski resorts in the world. Telluride, Aspen, and Vail are just three resorts and they are all well known around the world. There are definitely some major differences in the weather, but what about their levels of poverty?.
Poverty is always a major problem in all cities, but how bad is it in Denver and Miami? As of right now, in Miami there is an estimated five hundred thousand who are not insured, mostly because the companies whom they work for can afford to have these people insured. Miami's goal of their 2001 to 2004 master plan is to reduce poverty and is also going to advocate access health care. There are previous reports out that are showing that the poverty levels in Denver were worse than previously reported. In 1999, the center for public-private sector cooperation estimated a total of 10.6% of the population was in poverty, compared to the recent repots of 14.3%. Even though the poverty levels were worse than they originally reported, it is two percentage points lower than the previous decennial census in 1989.
