Summarizing Popol Vuh

In the beginning of Popol Vuh the earth is created after a period of time when all was calm and silent. The Forefathers made the world by shouting "Earth- once. They then created the animals to call out their names and worship the Forefathers but when the animals do not, the Forefathers become angry. They condemn the animals to being food for the people. They form the first man out of clay but he is not at all smart so they destroy him. The Forefathers then ask Xpiyaoc, grandmother of the day; Xmucané, grandmother of the dawn; and Nimatziis, the master of emeralds if man could be made of wood. The three did not agree with what the Forefathers were doing but allowed them to use the wood. After a while of the formation of wood people the people began to forget about their Creators and begin to walk on all fours. The Creators became angry and sent Eagle, Jaguar, and Vampire to eliminate the wooden men. The few that survived became the monkeys of the world. .
Paradise Lost- The father and uncle of the Hero-Twins, Hun-hunahp and Vucub-Hunahp , are asked to go down to Xibalbá to meet with the Lords of Hell. The brothers had disturbed the Lords with their ball playing. They, the Lords of Hell, played many cruel tricks on the two young boys. The first trick was the Lords making wooden replicas of themselves and the boys thought the wooden ones were the real things. The Lords also had them sit on a hot stone and they were sent to the House of Gloom. The Lords of Death sacrificed both boys by ripping out their hearts. Before the boys were buried the head of Hun-hunahp was cut off by the evil lords and thrown into a thorn tree. The tree instantly bloomed and grew fruit. The Lords couldn't find the head and were alarmed. They told everyone in Xibalbá to not go by the tree's area. But Lord Blood's young daughter was curious and went to the tree. The skull in the tree spat into her hand while she was reaching for fruit.
