It was very realistic and a situation that many people have had to cope with. In Brookside, armed drug dealers held Brookside Close' hostage. This was quite a violent storyline and in parts it was quite disturbing. This isn't a storyline that many people would be familiar with but it could still happen. Murder is also quite an exciting storyline in soap operas. A few examples of this would be where the body was found under the patio in Brookside and there was a big murder investigation about it, in Eastenders Little Mo killed her husband Trevor by hitting him over the head with an iron. She was sent to trial and served time in prison it. .
             Also teen soaps tackle the same kind of issues. For example, Hollyoaks is a soap opera with a young cast. Recently Norman had to cope with the tradgic death of his brother Luke and also Jodie had to deal with the death of her brother Jamie. Both characters were killed in a car accident. .
             Many issues have been used within soap operas. For example adultery, divorce, death, rape and teen pregnancy. In 'Coronation Street' Sarah Louise became pregnant when she was thirteen. Sarah Louise had the baby and raised it with her mothers help. This brought about much.
             controversy in the news about whether or not this should be allowed to be a main issue on television.It was a very popular storyline and was used by other TV producers, such as Sonia becoming pregnant in 'Eastenders'. Sonia's storyline was different in that she didnt keep the baby when she gave birth. She had it adopted. This brought about two issues of teen pregnancy and adoption. Both of these issues are common in todays society. Also in 'Emmerdale', Katie became pregnant at a young age but had a miscariage.This again brought about a common issue of miscariage, as many women have had to cope with it. .
             In 'Eastenders', the very controversial issue of euthanasia. This storyline included Dot Branning (formerly Dot Cotton) killing her friend Ethel to ease her suffering.
