EE Cummings

Cummings was going to produce paintings and poetry and not care about the results. "So far as I am concerned, poetry and every other art was and is and forever will be strictly and distinctly a question of individuality." With a technique coming from a poorly educated man who used to write letters to cummings father using an "i" and this appeal to cummings. Today, this would be how someone would know and identify cummings" works.
One of cummings themes would be nature which can be seen in the following poem:.
             l(a.

             le.

Cummings brought the uniqueness into a simple three word poem. No more was necessary and that was all that was going to be written. Seeing a very complex poem in the way the poem was written and the word choice. Because cummings wrote that way people criticized him because they thought that too much of cummings own personality was coming into and intruding on the poems. Others compared cummings poems to a rose that "to pick out flaws in his was no different than pointing out defects in a rose" (Dickey 101). Nature was an easy way for cummings to express his feelings. Through childhood cummings was always playing in the woods and outside in the tree house: "when the oak begs permission of the birch/ to make an acorn- valleys accuse their/ mountains of having altitude- and march" (9-11). Through the words come deeper meanings, but once again showing nature as a point of view and making the poems more inviting for people to read. Cummings in many of his poems used uniqueness as an advantage and brings other aspects into the picture. Using nature as a theme helped cummings get the word out to a different audience.
Another place cummings liked to bring out personal option was through human spirit. The human spirit that was used was from own life experiences or of what was seen in people around cummings.
