The commercial that I chose was an add for Adidas deodorant. In the commercial, there are several people that are taking part in several different sports, and excelling in them. You see a lot of finely tuned athletes playing the sports that they love, but non of the athletes seem to be professionals, but they are playing the sport for the sport, and not for money, when it is clear that they all were probable paid quite a bit of money to do the commercial. I chose this commercial for the punch line, "the harder you work, the harder it works.".
When watching the commercial, I felt that the best form of Ethos, or authority was that they company used superior athletes to sell the product. These are the kind of athletes, that younger or less fit people aspire to become. Logos was easy. Every company compare their product to that of a similar one. In the commercial, they say that their product lasts longer and fights odor better than the leading competitor. Pathos on the other hand was a little bit more difficult. I saw the commercial several times, and the only thing that I could come up with was the need to become a better athlete. No, no deodorant can make you a better athlete, but when young athletes, like myself, see these superior athletes competing at the level that they are at, you do what they do to become them and hopefully excel at sports.
I believe that the commercial was aimed towards the active male, because of the actors or athletes, what ever you want to call them, are all male, and due to the fact that the deodorant is made for men and not women. .
