             Analysis of Clinton's Rhetoric.
The paper will now examine Clinton's rhetoric itself by applying some of the five canons of rhetoric to his speech. What will be examined includes: (1) Style; (2) Delivery; and (3) Memory (Foss). The style of Clinton's speech played a critical role in its effectiveness. Clinton used traditional church going principles to show how sorry he was for doing what he did and all the pain it caused his family and America. Using this showed that he was a church going man who had thought a lot about his actions (Speech). Clinton's speeches tended to use a lot of examples and were pretty easy to follow. He wanted the everyday individual to be able to understand his speeches and what his point was going to be. He also tried a lot to persuade people by getting them to believe he did not have any relations with Monica Lewinsky, for example.
The delivery of Clinton's speeches helped to promote a sense of authority and control to the American people. Clinton's style of delivery was dynamic with feeling, energy, and excitement flowing throughout the speech. Most of the wording in this speech was somber with him admitting to his infidelity in front of many religious leaders, even his own wife. Many of the words and sentences show how much time and effort was taken in preparing this speech before it was delivered. .
The last canon used to analyze the effectiveness of Clinton's speech is memory. Clinton used memory in a lot of his speeches, memorizing every single word even improvising on occasion when in a forum. In this speech, he improvised a little bit but mostly stuck to the script since it was a very serious subject.
