Ever since I could remember my dad wasn't there. My parents were not divorced or separated but for some weird reason he was always gone for long periods of time. When he came back he would always show me bills or coins from all the countries that he had gone to. Not until I was about eight years old did I understand that my dad took frequent business trips to overseas. And being daddy's little girl, I was always brought back special treats. So eventually my new obsession became receiving coins from all the countries that he visited. .
Even though I do like collecting coins I am not obsessed like many people who have a special book or album where they display all their coins. Mine usually sit in a piggy bank or an empty container that I could find. It is amusing to me to see people display their coins because it seems as though they are bragging about all the money that they have. Money does make people do weird things. But I still do like boasting about my collection. .
As of know I have collected money from all the continents, except of course for Antarctica but I"m not sure if they do have a currency. My coins range from the Ivory Coast and South Africa to Japan, London, Sweden, Iran, Turkey, Brazil, Venezuela, Hong Kong, and many more. Each time I receive a coin from a new country it gives me a feeling as though I have been to that country even though unfortunately I probably have never set foot in it. .
I don't know what I will do with my coin collection. In the future I might give it to my children if they shared the same interest. Or I could always keep it as a reminder of my childhood and of my father. But for now my coins are safely sitting in the piggy bank on top of my nightstand in my room. Maybe eventually I will have a coin from every country in the world. .
