Jo's emotional attachment to Dana's murder distanced her from life in modern reality. Her ongoing thoughts related to her past friend Dana and her dramatic end, were distracting her from her loved ones during family functions. Following a Christmas party held at Jo's home, she reflecteds on her continually active thoughts that occupied her mind during conversations with family members:.
"I didn't talk about Dana, though. I"m not sure why. I saw her while I was speaking. She was especially in my mind, of course, because of seeing Eli and talking to him at the party, because he"d brought up her name at last. I"d thought of her earlier, too, at the moment when Cass seemed to be suggesting that I"d led a boring life. Thought of her and knew I would say nothing." (155).
These thoughts occurring in Jo's mind identify the effect of Dana's murder on Jo's life and her inability to let go of the events from her past. Jo realizes that she seemed distracted by memories of Dana during the conversation with her daughter. Although she observes this herself she continues to keep the problem a secret from her husband and children without worry of the inevitable outcome. You need to relate this directly back to your thesis .
