If someone is so shallow that they cannot get over the fact that most women are larger than a size 12 and still beautiful people, they don't deserve you. This is why I"m writing on this very issue. Most designer stores do not make clothing sizes higher than a size 12. The good news is that companies are recognizing the clients they have been neglecting. Finally in stores such as Reitmans and many other designer stores are catering to women's plus size clothing. .
Over time women become negatively influenced from constantly viewing sexist advertisements. Advertisements degrading women's bodies are everywhere around us. They are on billboards; T.V, magazines and in fact we ourselves become walking advertisements for many products. I have always been the girl who had to have the brand name products i.e. Nike shoes. In school I would wear nothing less than Nike. The advertisement that I fell for was Michael Jordan's Nike Air. He is such an amazing athlete and I believed that these shoes would make me cool, and more likely to succeed. I realize now that saving money in cool. One advertisement I like, which encourages young women to save money is an advertisement for Walmart. In this T.V commercial a bunch of girls are shopping at Walmart and expressing how cool it is to save money when shopping for school clothes. .
False images begin when young girls begin playing with the ever so perfect Barbie doll. From this point on images of women in television commercials, magazines, and movies, has confused and driven girls and women astray. I recently visited Walmart, Toys R Us, Zellars, and a few other stores in search of a Barbie doll with realistic measurements. .
One excellent improvement that Barbie has accomplished is introducing Barbie characters from many different cultures. I feel that making Barbie dolls into a multicultural icon is a huge advancement. A few ways society could improve advertising could be giving proper feedback to advertisers on what we would like to see in a doll such as different body types.
