Steven Boone was born and raised in New Mexico. This is where he met his girlfriend and soon to be mother of Naomi, Kathleen. Kathleen had Naomi short before she began going crazy. Steven eventually divorced Kathleen and soon married Naomi's kindergarten teacher, Jean Tobias. Steven and Naomi had another daughter, Sarah Boone who was born in November 1986. The Boone family; Sarah, Steven, Jean and Naomi lived together as a happy family in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Sarah attended camp with me during the years that Naomi had cancer. This book is the story of a young girls struggle with cancer and how her family and friends around her decided to deal with it.
4. Steven Boone- The father of Naomi and Sarah, also the husband of first Kathleen and second Jean. The main caretaker of Naomi during her struggle.
Kathleen- Naomi's mother who after about four years of raising Naomi became sick and was shortly sent to a mental Hospital where Naomi would sometimes visit her on special occasions. After a while Naomi was restricted to ever seeing her very much.
Jean Tobias- Stevens second wife who was the birth mother of his second daughter, Sarah Boone. Jean also adopted Naomi as her daughter and raised her as if she was her own blood just like Sarah. Jean was there to support Naomi through her sickness and if anything just helped Naomi to feel stronger.
Sarah Boone- Born in 1986, the step sister of Naomi. Jean was Sarah's mom and Steven was her dad. Naomi and Sarah became very close sisters. Sarah always talked about how much she looked up to her whenever I talked to her.
5. All of the family lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Naomi attends all levels of school in New Mexico as well as Sarah. Naomi is soon transferred to Dallas to visit a Hospital there that can give her the attention and medicine that she needs to get well. Stevens physician cousins, Ben and David Boone live in Dallas and are also there to help Naomi.
