             Amy's mother pushed her so hard to become a genius because she felt that her daughter could do anything she wanted to if she tried hard enough. I also think that her individual in the joy luck club was a factor and the success her friend "Aunt Lindoe" was having with her child. Amy's mother had other issues in her life that may have contributed to her toughness with her daughter. She lost several babies before she came to the US. Maybe she felt because of her loses she deserved to have a special child; in other words a genius of prodigy. Most people who migrate to America feel this is a land where you can become successful because of the abundance opportunity. It also appears that her mother was the dominant parent; her father appeared to be passive. She seems to be the only one teaching and training Amy while her father had little or no input. .
             Though her mother pushed and encouraged her Amy always rejected the encouragement. She just wanted her mom to accept her for who she is. Amy went along with her mother wishes reluctantly. Amy wanted to please her mother even though she hated all of the lessons. An example of this is when Amy's mother made her take piano lessons with Mr. Chong. Her piano teacher who was retired and he listened to the music in his head; Amy being rebellious towards her mom played the piano badly. Amy felt like Mr. Chong could not teach her anything because he was deaf. Mr. Chong could not hear her play the piano so how could he know if she was playing the notes right. Amy's mother made her feel as if she was not good enough to be her daughter. Everything that Amy's mom expected her to succeed in became failure for Amy. This is where Amy began to feel resentment for her mother; it was if she was not the genius her mother expected her to be but this big disappointment to her mom.
