golden compass

             .
The book I read was The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman. This book is about a girl named Lyra Belacqua who later earns the later earns the name Lyra Silvertongue because of her ability to get out of tough situations with her fast talk. (She lives in a different world than us; they are a lot less developed) Lyra was raised in Jordan collage but never really new where she came from or who her parents were. Her best friend was Rodger the servant and her dmon Pantalaimon. A dmon is kind of like your little angel that gives you friendly advice, only a dmon can change into any form they wish until their human is an adult that they stay at there one true form. After a series of events (like the mysterious disappearances of children) Lyra finds out she has a very important role in the fate of all living things. Lyra goes nuts when she finds out the Gobblers (what the children named the things taking the kids) have Rodger. She then finds out from her "Uncle- Lord Asriel that the Gobblers have gone up north. So Lyra does whatever it takes to head up that way. Before Lyra leaves the master of Jordan collage gives Lyra a golden compass called an alethiometer. She hitches a ride from Mrs. Coulter, who is Lyras mother but she doesn't know that yet, and falls in love with her luxurious life style. Lyra then finds out what the Gobblers are looking for in children, Dust. Dust is an elementary particle that can only be seen with a special camera. But the strange thing about it is the dust particles are more attracted to adults that to children. When Lyra is attending a party with Mrs. Coulter she finds out that Mrs. Coulter is in charge of the Gobblers. Upon hearing this Lyra runs away. She then gets a ride from the river people who are also looking for the missing kids and Lyra gets a ride. They then establish an army of river people and armored bears.
