Fetal Pig

I had never dissected a pig before and it was a very new experience for me. The things I enjoyed most about the lab were cutting the pig, looking at the anatomy of the fetal pig, and I enjoyed comparing the pig to a human being. .
First of all, cutting the pig was so entertaining to me. My lab partner and I cut the back of the pig and saw its vertebrate. The spine was so miniature and thin. We also cut out the eye ball. The eye ball was small and rounded, it was also very soggy. The next thing we did was cut open the hard skull. When we did this cytoplasm came shooting out into our face. It was kind of gross but it was still nice to see. My lab partner and I also sliced open the heart and saw the veins and arteries. The last thing we did was cracked the ribs for no apparent reason at all.
Secondly, it was pleasurable looking at the anatomy of the fetal pig. My lap partner and I became familiar with a lot of the terms related to the anatomy of the pig. The anatomical terms that we became familiar with were the dorsal, lateral, anterior, cephalic, superficial, pectoral, and pelvic. We look intently at the lungs and the diaphragm. We also saw the umbilical cord which was really neat. We saw the small intestine and the stomach. The anatomy of the fetal pig was very similar to ours. .
Thirdly, we compared the fetal big to a human. Pigs and humans have a lot of similarities. They both have an especially complex digestive system. By the same token, they have veins and arteries. In both the human and pig the cecum colon, and rectum make up the large intestine. They together have a gall bladder where the bile is temporarily stored. One more similarity is that in both the pig and human the heart is locating in the thoracic cavity. Some differences in fetal pigs and humans are that humans don't have an umbilical cord, human's skeletal structure is advanced, and we don't have a tail. .
Lastly, I truly enjoyed the fetal pig lab.
