Boredom in our schools

Even more students are completing higher levels of education as they head off to college and graduate school. Although the overall education statistics appear to read well for America, the feeling throughout the schools is not as gratifying. In no other schools is this as noticeable as in American public high schools. Students trudge from one class to the next counting down minutes till the period is over, finding ways around doing the workload they are assigned and wondering just how many days it actually is until they graduate. What students do not realize is that they have no excuse for their boredom. They have been given an opportunity that is unique to them because they are American and instead of taking advantage of their education and learning all they can, they whine, complain and make up a disease where during the last year of high school one does as little as possible (yes senioritis is what I"m referring to). It seems that we are breeding a stuck up bratty generation that is not what I want my generation to be seen as. .
I admit that I am guilty of falling into the same boredom traps that has captured so many other teenagers. I admit I am guilty of whining about teachers and the courses I am made to take. Many of these things are unavoidable, they are the inevitable. However it is most important that we as the American youth remember that we have been given an incredible opportunity and that education is not something to be overlooked or wasted. Our favorite classes should no longer be gym and lunch but math and history. Our favorite teachers should no longer be the ones who give the easiest quizzes and the least amount of homework but the ones that challenge us to think and become better people. However the blame does not entirely rely on the students, the teachers also have a responsibility to relieve boredom from our public schools. They also have an obligation to their students to find ways to make them relate to the material and in doing so they will relieve not only the boredom of their students but the boredom of themselves.
