Tired of being held back by working for someone else and the dream of owning their own clothing company was what drove David Stewart 36 and Chris Carr 43 to pair up and launch C&D clothing in early 1997. Stewart and Carr missioned themselves to create a simple line of clothing that was superior to the competition yet could be sold quickly and be produced cheaply. They soon began to realize that they were not fully equipped to handle the company by themselves as they lacked financial and managerial experience. This is when Stewart and Carr invited Ron Tenabel to join the company which added the necessary skill required for the business to achieve their goals.
Ron brought with him a large amount of working capital and also was able to put into practice his management skills. He firmly established the five managerial functions: Planning, organizing, leading, controlling, budgeting and integrated them with Stewart and Carr's production, design, marketing and sales skills. An analysis of managerial functions will be made in relation to this case study with the extensive use of De Bono's six thinking hats ®. Planning, organizing, leading, controlling and budgeting will be individually addressed though out the body of this report. .
