             Assertiveness is far different but often confused with aggression. Assertiveness involves physical or verbal force to achieve a goal. The difference that does not classify it as aggression is there is no intent to harm or injure your opponent. Morality and the meaning of the game is what make athletes make the decisions that they do. There are many instances in athletic competitions that cause frustrations and anger in the athletes. During these times of anger is where the athletes morals are brought into the picture. When an athlete is frustrated many are tempted to take a cheap shot at a player that will injure or harm them. These are the athletes that are considered violent and aggressive. The athletes that use that frustration to unleash a fair, hard hit, are the players that are assertive. The ones that take the cheap shots do not care about playing the game right and the well-being of the other athletes have an issue with their morals. The players that have good morals are the ones that you see involved in a large collision, but gets up off of the playing field and helps the other player up, and did not wish any harm to them or their teammates. .
             Aggression can also effect the performance of the athletes. With hostile aggression, the athletes performance would look as if the athlete was more concerned about hurting the other team physically than defeating them on the scoreboard. With instrumental aggression the athlete would be more interested in harming the opponent to gain an advantage in the game so that the team could have a better chance in winning.
