War Chariots of Egypt

" 5 The Egyptians also used a form of blinkers to keep the horses eyes from wandering. Egyptian chariots had no space for seats only standing room. "The body of the car was exceedingly light, consisting of a painted wooden framework, strengthened and ornamented with metal and leather binding [ ]" .
The drivers of the chariots had many different items with them as they traveled. The driver usually carried a whip with him. The whip consisted of a short stick with a piece of leather on end that would hit the horses back. The driver also carried a spear, bow and arrow, or battle-axe with them at all times. If they came across another chief they would sometimes dismount and fight in hand to hand combat. Chariots had a special area for weapons called a bow-case. "The bow-case, frequently richly ornamented, with the figure of a lion or other devices, was placed in an inclined position, pointing forwards [ ]" Chariots had two purposes , one, to use in combat and two, two show off the carvings and designs on your own personal chariot. .
The Chariots usually consisted of two and sometimes three men during battle. More often then not there was only two soldiers, a driver and an archer. "The chariot soldiers stood two abreast on the chariot. One fought from the chariot with his bow and arrows or with his darts, which were conveniently at hand." Some other countries sometimes would add a shield-bearer in the chariot to protect the other two soldiers. .
Chariots were not always practical. Due to the lack of shocks it was very hard to control the chariot. It was also very hard for archer in the chariot to shoot arrows. "Chariots fought therefore in closed ranks overwhelming the enemy by the quantity of missiles rather than by their accuracy." Chariots on the other hand were suited for going after fleeing enemy. "What chariots were certainly very much suited for was the pursuit of fleeing enemy on an open plain, when spears could be used for stabbing them in the back.
