"Alcohol Use"

Some people do go on drinking as if they were still in college but reap the pain that goes along with the new level of responsibility. .
"Alcoholism," as defined by Encyclopedia Encarta Online "is a disease marked by a chronic craving for alcohol.".
In today's' world, alcohol is readily available to almost anyone who would like to have a few drinks. Because of easy access to alcohol, it should not be surprising that alcoholism is a big problem in today's society. Alcohol not only has many, many negative effects on the human body and mind, but it is also creating increasing numbers of harmful social effects. Every year there are increasing numbers of families being destroyed, children being abused, and people being sexually assaulted associated with alcoholism. Unfortunately, alcoholism does not affect everyone the same way. There are physical and social effects to the disease as well.
There is not one lone cause of alcoholism. The contributing factors that create alcoholics are numerous, and any combination can increase a person's chance of falling dependant on the substance. Some of the factors that contribute to alcoholism are age, gender, family history, family background, psychological disorders, and even personality traits. Any of these factors could increase chances of being an alcoholic, but scientists are unsure of the exact cause of alcoholism, they can only evaluate by studies that the above mentioned factors truly do directly affect those that would be alcoholics.
People who repeatedly expose themselves to alcohol or other drugs develop, over time, a tolerance to certain effects; these people experience lesser effects with the same dose or require higher doses to achieve the same effect. For example, tolerance develops alcohol-related sedation, loss of motor coordination, and memory impairment. Similar, studies have shown that animals can develop tolerance to alcohol's effect.
