Business environment of the Dutch Cattle Breeding Industry

The prices in the EU are higher because the European Union supports its farmers by guaranteeing a minimum price (more information on this subject in the chapter The international economic environment'). .
The competition between the cattle breeders in The Netherlands is not significantly high, the main reason for this is the guaranteed minimum price. .
             .
             3. The international (economic) environment. .
In this chapter the international environment will be disguised. The economical' part will not be disguised separately because the cattle industry is not really dependent from economical factors. This has two reasons:.
First of all, the cattle industry produces meat, a primer need for humans. That means that men will always buy it since there are not much substitutes.
The second reason is the Dutch government and the EU. They have made so many rules and regulations that there is not a real market; there are minimum and maximum prices. The demand is mainly focussed on the confidentiality of the consumers.
There are a lot of other international environmental factors that have influence on the industry, all these factors will be disguised separately in this chapter.
3.1 The EU and The Dutch government.
As you have read in the previous chapter, the cattle breeders in The Netherlands are highly dependent of the regulations of the European Union. The European Union sets the minimum and the maximum prices for the farmers, it regulates the import and export and the EU is responsible for regulations (e.g. regulations for: animal treatment, prevention of diseases etc.). .
The EU sets minimum prices for example milk. This means that the EU buys all the milk that is not sellable on the normal market. If a Dutch farmer wants to sell its cattle on a market outside of the EU, he can get money form the EU so that he can sell the cattle for a lower price. This is necessary because the prices in the EU are higher than in non-EU countries.
