A Home with Homosexuals

The concept of raising a child is usually a positive and respected idea that most people praise. However, in relation to same-sexed parents, the thought of two homosexual guardians caring for a child brings up various conflicts. One topic that has caused much controversy is the adoption of a child by gay couples. Another conflict simply includes two homosexual parents caring for a child by providing a life or home. One may think heterosexuals are the only right guardians for an adopted child. Most feel that they alone are the only ones able to raise a adopted child correctly, and never homosexuals. .
In the first article "Affidavit of Steven K. Lofton", a homosexual man named Steven K. Lofton states that gays should have the free choice to adopt a child. Lofton explains that he would care, love, and nurture his child just like any other good parent. He also feels he is a normal human being who wants to be part of a child's life. Lofton simply wants to be a parent. In the beginning, Lofton had been adopting a child named John who was HIV positive. Unfortunately, Lofton was informed with bad news that he could no longer parent John because Florida now bans gay adoptions. But because a kid is under the roof with gay or lesbian parents does not mean the child is in the wrong hands. The purpose of being a parent is keeping and treating the child in a well mannered environment. Lofton proves he is a worthy parent in his passage: .
"I include John's friends in our family, inviting them over for dinner and having them join us on family outings to the beach or park. Roger and I teach John household responsibilities such as yard work, car maintenance and cooking. I discipline him appropriately when he misbehaves. I hug and comfort him when he is upset. I teach him manners, respect and other values that I consider important. I make sure he is safe. He calls me "Dad." (Lofton 593)".
