Writing about gender in the world today can be very difficult. Everyone has a differing view about issues having to do with gender, and no one will ever agree. Should a woman be president? Should a woman be a minister? Should a man be a designer or a nanny? These are all questions that are facing society today, and no one seems to know the answer. Everyone has a different view based on religion, upbringing, or just the area of the world that they live in. The main question is, what is the role of a woman, and what is the role of a man in society today? .
Historically and Biblically, the husband is supposed to be the leader of the household. The man is supposed to be in charge, but still love his wife and care for her, "However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband" (Ephesians 5:33 NIV). So, why are there so many women who are in charge of everything in the home? Now, this is not to say that a woman should not have a say in what goes on in the household, but that the man is supposed to be the authority. "For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church." (Ephesians 5:23a NIV). When the wife takes the leadership position in the household, this not only makes the man feel inferior and embarrassed, but it also causes contention among the family. The man will usually resent the woman at some point because she has taken over his role. The man might feel that his wife does not think that he can properly play the role of the head of the household. Too many times, women think that they should be in charge of the family, ".the man is the head of the household, but the woman is the neck, and she can turn the head any way she wants." (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) Call it old-fashioned, but is this not the way that most people were raised? Should husbands not protect their wives and take care of them?.
