Amistad The truth

In this essay I will be examining the views and bias of Thomas Robb in Amistad. The author's point of view will be discussed, along with evidence to support. At the end of this essay the author's bias will have been explained. My point of view will have been stated with evidence to support.
The issue in Amistad is clearly stated that we stay in a totalitarian government that alters facts and history to help support its power and enslave the population. In a sophisticated way controlling peoples, thoughts, jobs and religion. All the while thinking they are free. The author uses examples such as affirmative action. He states that because everyone is equal minorities get special privleges through affirmative action to insure they are equal. The author also makes refernce to the "big brother" is watching you theory.
The author's point of view is that we are not free. The author cites excerpts from George Orwell's book 1984. That everything is apart of a big illusion designed by the government to keep us all in line for the sake of peace and security . He states that,"All this is necessary of course, to maintain order and the sacrifice of "a little" liberty is the price that must be paid to insure a safe existence in this robotic state." The evidence he uses to support is not only stated but is demonstrated by the movie Amistad. Orwell states that history will be falsified and rewritten, paintings repainted and altered dates will occur to alter our history. The author uses the movie Amistad written by Steven Spielberg as an example. He states that there was an important fact that Spielberg left out. That upon arrival in America the captain was promptly arrested for participating in the illegal slave trade. The slaves were set free and spent a year recieving Christian training in Conn. and were sent back to Africa. The author states that Spielbergs's film isn't factual, however, Spielberg produced a study and learning guide to go along with the film.
