Extending tasks:.
- Try twisting or bending as you move.
- Try adding some hopping, jumping, or sliding in your movements.
Applying task:.
- Listen to the different beats the maracas can make to create different movements.
Lead-Up Activity.
Description:.
The students are asked if they are familiar with what levels are. To help them better understand the high/medium/low level concepts, sports and activities is the theme used. Activities such as volleyball or soccer heading can be some examples for high levels, dribbling in basketball for medium levels, and playing mini golf or swimming for low levels. Using the maracas to change speed, we will allow the students to practice and use the concepts they have learned.
The students are then asked if they are familiar with what pathways are. To help them better understand this concept, a student will be asked to demonstrate one in front of the class. Giving examples of different shapes, such as a circle, square, or triangle will be helpful. Again, using the maracas to change speed, we will allow the students to practice and use the concepts they have learned.
Description using child-friendly language:.
"Does anyone know what levels are? Can you give examples of some activities or sports that you need to do at a high level? Something where you can reach for the sky? What about a medium level? Something you do-- not too high or too low. What about a low level where you get really low to the ground? Now, let's get everyone to spread out again and find their own space. Listen carefully to the speed of the maracas. When we shake them fast, everyone do their favourite high level sport. When we shake it slow, let's see everyone doing an activity at a low level. And when the maracas are at a medium speed, choose an activity that you can do at a medium level."".
"Does anyone know what pathways are? If I walk in a straight line, is that a pathway? What are some pathways that we can make using shapes? Can someone demonstrate a pathway? Now, when the maracas start shaking, everyone choose their own pathway to do.
