Nohemy Menbreno, Pipestone, MN, is a woman who enjoys living and working in the United States. Born in Belize City, Central America, she has experienced both American and Central American cultures. I believe her ability to adapt would make her a great employee. My work as Nohemy's manager would be full of various tasks and learning experiences. There are many things I would consider if Nohemy worked for me.
Nohemy Menbreno has an interesting history. Her father, a black-African, is a large farmer and professional carpenter from a wealthy family. Her mother is of Mexican dissent and came from a poor family. This background makes Nohemy a Mestizo (Encarta Encyclopedia Article, 2003). .
Although education is free until the seventh grade, in Central America, most children don't attend established educational facilities. The seventh, eighth, and ninth grades, which aren't free, are considered high school. Tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades are "college" and more expensive than high school. As a teenager, Nohemy attended high school at night and worked during the day. This demonstrates her motivation.
People worked extremely long hours at numerous jobs in Belize City. Nohemy began working as a nanny at 13 years old. She changed jobs often, usually working two jobs at a time. In her late teens she cleaned motel rooms for six months. Following high school she worked as a receptionist in a doctor's office for a year and six months while waiting tables in the evenings. Nohemy worked twelve hour days earning $3 to $4. She came to the United States four years ago. After moving to Pipestone, she began working full-time for Ellison Meat Company. She also sells Mary Kay products and jewelry. .
Belize City is the only Central American city where English is the official language, so Nohemy is able to speak both English and Spanish (Encarta Encyclopedia Article, 2003). This skill allows her to work as a translator at the court house and other places in surrounding the Pipestone area.
