Work Day

Robert almost fainted. Manchester United were his absolute heroes. Every square inch of the walls of his room was covered in posters of the United squad and every time one of their matches was on television, nothing on earth would persuade Robert to leave the house before the final whistle blew. And now United were coming to his own home town to play the local fourth Division side Loxford Thrashers who hadn't won a game in the last two seasons. But who cared! All Robert wanted to do was to see his heroes live in action instead of on TV.
He was standing daydreaming about being called on to the Loxford team as a substitute and scoring the equaliser in the last second of the game when suddenly he heard a car horn blaring and an angry voice shouting "Get off the road, you stupid little boy before you get killed!" and he had to leap on to the pavement to avoid being knocked down. But this afternoon, nothing could annoy Robert. He was going to see United playing live at last.
He dashed home as quickly as he could and at six o"clock when his Dad came in from work, Robert was waiting in the front hall almost bursting with excitement. He started to tell his Dad all about it but he was so excited that the words came out all jumbled up. "Slow down, young fella," laughed his Dad. "I can't make out a word you"re saying." So Robert took a deep breath and started again and told the whole story right from the start.
"OK, little man," Dad said. "I"ll get out of work a bit earlier tomorrow and we"ll go down to the ground and get two tickets for the match. We can't let United come to Loxford and not get to see the game.".
For once in his life Robert couldn't wait for bedtime to come. By half past seven he had had his bath and brushed his teeth and was tucked up in bed trying to get to sleep so tomorrow would come sooner. .
The next day seemed to crawl by. Every minute seemed like an hour and every hour seemed to last forever.
