General plumbers install and repair drinking water, waste disposal, drainage, and gas systems in homes and commercial buildings. They also install plumbing fixtures. Construction plumbers work from blueprints and drawings that show the planned location of pipes, plumbing fixtures and appliances. They determine what types of building materials and tools that will be required. Plumbers lay out the job to fit the piping into the structure of the building. Plumbers measure and mark the areas where pipes will be installed and connected. In doing this, plumbers can accurately cut pipe, holes in walls, ceilings, and floors. After the piping is in place, plumbers install appliances and connect the system to the outside water and sewer lines. With the use of pressure gauges, they check the system, making sure the plumbing works properly.
Air-conditioning refrigeration/heating technicians install, maintain, diagnose, and correct problems in air-conditioning refrigeration/heating equipment. Heating equipment technicians install oil, gas, electric, and multi-fuel systems. They also install fuel and water supply lines, air ducts and vents, pumps, and other parts. Air-conditioning technicians follow blueprints and electrical wiring diagrams to install motors, compression, condensers, evaporators, and other parts. They connect all of this to duct work, refrigerant lines, and a power source. Then they make sure systems are operating properly.

In the Career Assessment inventory I placed very high in the sales, mechanical and technical parts. This really made me think that the plumbing and heating field is fit for me and that I am in the right field to succeed in life and have a good future. I also placed above average in the leadership/management, which is good for me because I hope too one day open and own my very own plumbing and heating business. On the work-relevant values rating I have many things that I believe are very important in the work setting of the plumbing and heating field, such as authority and management making things precise and neat and also the organization of everything.
