Abortion is one of the most controversial topics in America. There is such a diversity in the United States that no one can come up with the "right answer." A lot of people don't see both sides of the issue. They think that if you make it illegal then it will just stop happening, it will just end there. What they don't know is the history surrounding sham doctors, back street butchers, and self-mutilating coat hanger abortions. The basic right of a woman to determine, when and how many times she will bear children is a very essential part of a woman's life.
About thirty-years ago, a young catholic woman had become pregnant with her seventh child, and because the family was facing hard times of the depression, the woman begged her doctor to "do something." He did, but later the woman developed a high fever. Delirious, she convulsed in pain and chewed her lips until they bled. Her husband pleaded with the doctor to hospitalize her, but he refused, fearing authorities would investigate and take away his license. Three days after her abortion, the woman died. Abortion is such an easy, safe way to terminate unwanted pregnancies, yet women were dying for lack of safe abortions.
Reproductive freedom- the fundamental right of every individual to decide freely and responsibly when and whether to have a child- is a reaffirmation of the principle of individual liberty cherished by most people worldwide. It helps ensure that children will be wanted and loved, that families will be strong and secure, and that choice, rather then chance, will guide the future of humanity. Instead, people against abortion want the child to be born no matter what the circumstances. It might be morally right at the time, but what about in the long run? If a baby is born to a seventeen-year old girl who was forced to have it against her will, how well will that child really be raised? The mother didn't want it, and how is she going to like it when it came and ruined her whole life.
