Linens should be removed and placed in a yellow laundry bag with a water-soluble plastic liner.
A second type of isolation is Enteric Isolation. Types of diseases that may require Enteric Isolation are Encephalitis, Viral meningitis, Type A viral hepatitis, Cholera, Viral pericarditis or myocarditis, and Gastrointestinal infections like amebic dysentery and salmonellas. Like any other isolation procedure, Enteric Isolation requires certain types of protective equipment to be worn.
             These include:.
             1) Private room required for children only. Patients with the same condition may share a room.
             2) Gowns are not required unless the health care worker's clothing may become contaminated. .
             3) Hands must always be washed before entering and leaving the room.
             4) Gloves are indicated whenever there will be direct contact with the patient or infected materials.
             5) A warning for Enteric Isolation should be placed outside the patient's door.
When removing equipment from a patient's room that is under Enteric Isolation, certain precautions must be taken. Any clothing that is contaminated must be discarded or double-bagged and labeled before sending them to the Central Service for sterilization.
The third type of isolation procedure I will explain is Strict Isolation. Strict Isolation is designed to prevent the transmission of very contagious infections that are spread by air or contact with the infected individual. Some diseases requiring Strict Isolation are:.
             1) Anthrax, inhalation (pulmonary).
             2) Bronchiolitis in infants, unknown etiology .
             3) Laryngotracheobronchitis (croup).
             4) Rabies.
             5) Pneumonic plaques.
             6) Smallpox.
             7) Burn patients infected with Staphylococcus or Streptococcus .
             8) Rubella.
Specified protective equipment must also be worn during Strict Isolation. Private rooms are indicated and the door must be kept shut at all times. Gloves, gowns and masks are required for anyone entering the restricted area. Special masks are sometimes available for use by children.
