The Leaving by Budge Wilson

I chose Budge Wilson's "The Leaving" as my favourite short story. I read this story in grade 11 English class and Mr. Sullivan request us to do an analysis on it. The analysis, which Mr. Sullivan asks us to do, is base on the theme and the literary device, which the author used. So I decide to write a brief summary for this story since I think the analysis doesnt have enough information about this outstanding short story. First of all, I will summarize the actions, which took placed in the movie. Secondly, I will list the characters in the story and describe them with my opinions. Thirdly, I will describe about the settings in the story. At last, I will conclude what I fell altering reading this story.
At the beginning of the story, the narrator of the story who is a 12 years old little girl called Jem is being woke up in the morning by her mom. On the other hand, her mom who is a housewife called Elizabeth asked her to get ready for a travel but she is too lazy to wake up since it's a Sunday morning. So her mother forces her to dress up and brought her out. They walked for about 10 miles until they reach a public bus station. The bus destination is a local train station in Lawrence town. Although, Jem is a bit worried about her father and her 4 brothers because they didnt notice that mom and her left, but she isnt brave enough to ask her mom for the reason why they have to left for a while. She never ride a train before because they cant afford to ride the Exhibition Ferris wheel but now she get to ride a train she is really excited about it. .
On the train, she finally dares to ask the reason for why they are living. Her mother told her that she read a book called "The Feminine Mystique", and which let her to know that the male in their family is not treating them right. She also told Jem that the reason for this escape is because her mother wanted to gain attention from the male members in their family.
