Paper on Style

, the author in an abstract manner and seems to think that all the younger generation does is put down his or her own father's and mother's. Moreover, the author feels that he did not get any special notice because he grew up in a wealthy era. In the second to last sentence the author says, "I might have done the same as most parents did if I"d been in their shoes." Conversely, in the very next sentence, the author says, "What matters is that the two generations tend to act in opposite ways." If two generations act in opposite ways, then there could be no way that the author would have taken the same steps as his parents. The author writes as if he does not like the younger generation for these reasons.
However, in passage E., the author speaks in sort of a paranoid way. Right from the beginning he assumes that he knows what the reader is thinking. The author also writes in a very opinionated fashion by saying that the Vietnam Center in Carbondale needs to go and by calling the Weatherman a freak. The author also speaks, in some ways, in a persuasive tone, as if he is trying to convince the reader that these are really his qualities.
In passage D., the author conveys his thoughts in a very cynical manner. He does this by saying that millions of people will have to come to their senses and realize the real source of their misery. Furthermore, he feels that corporate greed has destroyed the environment in Santa Barbara. The author sees the students in a respectable way for taking the harsh action of burning down the Bank of America in Santa Barbara.
