The Deviant Tone

On both of his albums he screams profanity aimed at his mother and his now ex-wife and how he'd kill them both in gory detail. There is an explicit warning label on the album, but a fourteen year old is still allowed to purchase these types of albums without so much as a second glance. It almost seems as though kids and teens see rap artists as heros because they murdered someone, or carries a gun, or has 2 or 3 men or women on their arms. Teens and children idolize these people, and want to become them without even thinking twice about what kind of filth comes out of their mouths. We need to help shape our future by preventing these products from being bought or even listened to so that our children's idols are not criminals but doctors and lawyers. .
In many rap songs the lyrics are very degrading to both men and women. They make racial and sexual comments. It is almost as if the lyrics and the music videos work together to put an even worse image into young minds. Sexually explicit and sometimes sexually degrading lyrics cause parents to want to cover their offspring's ears and even eyes when a music video airs on Much Music or MTV. Songs with the more sexually explicit lyrics and meaning are the ones that often make it into the top of the charts. The demand for what we're not allowed to view, or the ethically wrong or offensive is also what appeals to teenagers of today. It's because they themselves have not been allowed to experience what many rappers have gone through. It's different and in some cases it allows them to feel more mature. Some of these words and videos are sick, and many people are disgusted at what they see and hear, but why don't rap songs and videos stop being produced? The answer is simple, because they are in such high demand, and the children of our society feel that they depend on them, and think it's "cool" to be just like these artists, the artists that think they"re better than all the rest.
