American spirit has an effect on how Americans live today. That is why I think it is so important to tell you about American spirit and people who have had an effect on America.
Someone who has pride and respect for our country and feeling in their heart is someone with American spirit. Someone who fight for their country. Someone who is open minded. Some who goes out of their way to dress up to show their pride and patriotism. .
Harriet Tubman is a good example of someone who had American spirit. She believed people should have equal right no matter black or white. She fought to free other slaves. Harriet put her life on the line to help others in need of help. she even walked through swamps for others. If she would have gotten caught they would have beat her and most likely killed her, she knew this but she had enough American spirit to continue even though the consequences could have been horrible. Another person with American spirit was Rosa Parks. When Rosa was asked to stand up on the bus so a white person could sit down, she had enough respect for herself and her beliefs to say no. She knew it wasn't fair and knew it wasn't right.
All American are free, we have free rights and freedom of speech because of people like Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks. American spirit has done our country good. It brings people, families, and friends together. It lets them express themselves in ways we may have not been able to before. Flags, bumper stickers, magnets, shirts, and coffee mugs. If we did not have American spirit today, people would be violent and there would be slaves. Everyone would be on their own. We would have to defend for ourselves. America is like neighbors. Who would you borrow a cup of sugar from if you didn't have neighbors?.
