I Do: The American Dream

Five years from now, I will be living the American dream, marrying an average working-class hero type of man. I will be happy and in love. However, millions of United States citizens are being denied this same right which will someday legally merge me and my future fiancé. In 1996, former President Bill Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act, which stated that marriage is an institution that exists between a man and woman only. This law is not only unconstitutional, but also morally wrong. All marriage, weather straight or gay, should be legal in the United States.
The preamble of the constitution proclaims, "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."" The argument should not have to go beyond that. If a person wants to marry someone of the same sex, that person should have the right to do so. America stands for the freedom of all people, so long as no one is harmed in the process.
Many argue that marriage is an institution leading to procreation and child rearing. The only problem with that is not every female can have children, and not every male can produce babies. Also, not all straight couples desire a family with kids. Using this reasoning, marriage would have to be a vow to have children, rather than a vow of love and devotion, causing heterosexual couples to be excluded from the privilege of marriage, as well.
Another justification one might use to ban same sex marriage is that it is biblically wrong. Thus a religious leader would not be able to conduct the ceremony. This breaks a major clause of the Constitution. The first amendment clearly states that no law respecting an establishment of a religion should be made.
