One Child

I started reading it Sunday evening around 6pm and I was still at it up to 3:30 am. I took it with me to work and in between the day, I finished by 7pm, Monday night. The book was a source of healing to my soul. I could identify with Sheila due to my battle with childhood abuse, being a motherless daughter by age 7, and being somewhat a problem child myself. And it demonstrated ultimate healing through the power of love. Like Sheila, I too was very blessed to have people come into my life and bring out the greatness in me. Without their guidance, I would not have made it. I have learned that people come into your life for a reason: some to add; some to subtract; some to multiply and some to divide. They all play a significant role and if you will open your heart, you can plainly see what their role is. Without their love and support (former teachers, supervisors, co-workers, an a special director their belief in me made all the difference in the world. They nourished me to my destiny. Today I am the new Director of the Boys and Girls Club in Richmond County. My dream has always been to impact the lives of our young people to the point that they can become "Overcomers."" Overcome all the barriers of life through hard work, determination, perseverance, and faith. I am a living witness that against all odds, you can be whatever you want to be. .
             Effective Teaching Strategies.
Torey used several teaching strategies to help the children in her class. Morning discussion, the Kobold's Box, and she incorporated "fun- activities in order to learn many valuable lessons, for example, cooking on Wednesdays. Morning discussion was a great way to start the day. The children were able to discuss things that were pertinent to them and Torey went over the agenda for the entire day. This was helpful to all the children because they learned to express their true feelings on various topics that related to them.
