Jane Eyre


            Jane Eyre the heroine of this story is an orphan whose parents died while she was still an infant. Her mother married her father, a poor clergyman against the wishes of her grandfather Reed who disowned her. Her mom's brother, Mr Reed, a kind man who loved his sister took Jane in and considered her as his own daughter but he too died withn the year. ane was left with Mrs. Reed, who was uncaring, cruel and thoughtlless. Even her 3 cousins, John, Eliza and Georgiana were not nice to her and refused to play with her. At a very early age of 10, she was sent away to a boarding school, which is more like a charity school called Lowood, where life for her did not really get better. But Jane loved to learn and she persevered. She became close with one of her classmates, Helen Burns. Helen was a Christian and influenced Jane a great deal. Jane graduated first in her class and she stayed for another two years at Lowood as a teacher. .
             Jane later took a job at Thornfield Hall, the grand estate of the Rochester family. She was the governess to Adele Varens, the young daughter of the master, Edward Rochester. Jane and Edward begin to spend a lot of time together and she soon realized that she loved Edward. Jane began to feel unhappy because Mr. Rochester wasn't showing the same feelings toward her. She went back to Gateshead for a few weeks because of her Aunt Reed's illness and subsequent death. She found that she did not bear any more ill will and had forgiven her although her aunt died still hating her. When she got back to Thornfield Hall, Mr. Rochester tells her that he loves her and they become engaged. The closer that the ceremony grew the more that Rochester became arrogant. Jane said that she will work once they are married, for them to be equal. .
             On the day of the wedding, the ceremony was broken by the entrance of Mr. Mason and Mr. Briggs. They announced that Mr. Rochester was already married to Bertha Mason.
