Nowadays, many countries have allowed TV cameras presence in the courtroom. Some people may hold the opinion that TV Cameras should be allowed in the courtroom because it can document the process and educate the public, but others have a negative attitude. As far as I am concerned, I totally disagree with this issue, and I will explain why this is the case as follows. .
First of all, it will destroy the solemnity of the court and bring a mental burden to the jury if TV cameras are allowed in the courtroom. Clearly, courtroom is a sacred and authoritative place as well as the judicial procedure is serious; however, both the dazzling magnesium light of the cameras and the moving of the photographers will affect this seriousness. Also, those important people such as juries, lawyers, judges and so on who attend in the courtroom are susceptible to feeling uncomfortable because they are very conscious of cameras in the courtroom as human natures. Furthermore, the presence of TV cameras of court proceedings may infringe upon the privacy right of plaintiff. For example, most victims of the sexual assault cases dislike appearing in the public. Based on these three aspects, it is unwise to put TV cameras in the courtroom.
Another reason why I advocate the above mention is that children will see explicit sexual material or violent pictures of sex or violence cases on TV cameras. For example, ABC7 News (2003) reported that "A Florida lawyer who is worried his 11 year-old son will see explicit sexual material on T.V. during the Kobe Bryant case has asked a judge to ban cameras from the courtroom." When watching hours of murders, fights, and crime through TV without adults around to tell them that life is not like that most of the time, children are becoming scared and passive. They are easily to misunderstand that life is full of sex and violence. Hence, it indicates that allowing TV cameras in the courtroom can be harmful to the growing up of children.
