The Tormented Lives of Circus Animals

Unfortunately, this was not the only incident in which Ringling Bros. Circus was caught abusing an animal. In 1999 the Ringling Bros were charged a fee of 20,000 for the death of Benjamin and Kenny, two baby elephants (Merrit). Additionally, during an unannounced inspection, the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture found wounds on two of the remaining eight elephants. After the Ringling's veterinarian disregarded the injuries and overall health of the elephants, the USDA consulted with six elephant experts and discovered "evidence that the handling of these animals caused unnecessary trauma, behavioral stress, physical harm and discomfort" (Merrit). Consequently, the second incident in 2008 caused. However, a simple ban on a certain animal does not make up for the rest of the creatures that continue to suffer the pain of the whips and isolation in the show. .
Furthermore, the circus is not appropriate environment for wild creatures. Among other animals forced to perform in the circus, elephants and tigers originate from environments in which they are free to roam endlessly with only the fear of predators. Their freedom embraces their wild spirit and the beauty of the Mother Nature that makes life (our life as well) happen. It is Mother Nature' show: the beauty of the wilderness, and the cycle of its inhabitants that the one the world should witness in an awe, not the show in which the only cycle is that of the animal's suffering and training. As a matter of fact, Merriet R., an attorney of animal laws, discusses the additional damage when a young creature is torn from their mother to begin circus training .Additionally, there are psychological and medical damages in circus animals from the stress of captivity (Brady). Animals have restricted space and constantly moving from town to town which can cause dangerous psychological damage. As a result of the triggered stress, the audience is at risk of being attacked by one of the animals.
