While reading the short story Animal Farm, It shocked me that how Napolean changed his character over such a short period of time. After Snowball, one of the other pigs was dismissed from Animal Farm, Napolean took the position of becoming the leader of the farm. He became in charge of the farm and the animals. However, after he took on the responsibility of becoming the leader of the farm, he became more selfish, self-centered and most of all, careless towards the other animals. Throughout the novel it seemed he didn't care about the other animals or what they had to say. For instance, in one part of the novel, when Napolean announced that Animal Farm would engage in trade affairs, many of the animals opposed of this. Four young pigs, and many others started saying this was not right because it was humane and also it strictly said in the Seven Commandments no animals were allowed in engaging in trade affairs. However, Napolean didn't care or listen to what the animals had to say about this and did what he thought was right. He engaged in a trade with the neighboring farms. Another incident in the novel which proves Napolean's selfishness is the time when he and some other pigs moved into the farmhouse and started sleeping in the bed's, meanwhile the other animals had to suffer and sleep in hays. When the other animals heard of this many of them were disturbed. One goat, Muriel in specific reminded Napolean that in the Seven Commandments it mentioned that no animals were allowed to sleep in beds, but again Napolean didn't care to what the goat had to say. Furthermore, this incident not only proved his selfishness, but also illustrated how self-centered Napolean was.
More importantly, so far the author is making me feel very irritated with Napolean and his behavior towards the animals. It's making me feel this way about him because he seems to be making choices of the farm without any of the other animals being involved.
