Studying Human Growth and Development

By knowing this information, it can help me better understand people and myself. If I understand this question more, I can give speeches on how to be tough enough in order to leave the relationship. This is a question that will need a lot of research. This question hits home for me. I was in a relationship for a year and a half and after 2 months of the relationship being over, he came after me with a gun on the first encounter and brought it back again the second time and hit me. Now the cops were called but I did not call the cops. Why? I pleaded for the cops not to take him away. Why? I cried my eyes out when he was being arrested. Why? I knew I could not be with him anymore but I cannot help but think if I had called the cops or got a restraining order, I would not have been abused. .
This is a little background story of me. I am a Nigerian American and so was my boyfriend. We grew up together, went to the same school and went to the same church. We knew the same people and had the same friends. So when my boyfriend came at me the first time with a gun, I contacted our closest friends, but they took his side on the matter and begged me not to take out a restraining order. The second time around he came and this time it did not end nicely. He hit me and my neighbors called the cops on him. I ask myself all the time why did I not want him to be taken away by the cops. I already know the answer. It is because it will bring shame to my family, and it will be a lot of trouble at church. I was willing to sweep my pain under the carpet so that my family can have a nice Sunday. Why do people choose to put others happiness before theirs? .
In Domestic violence, a man is not always the abusive person but women are more likely to be in an abusive relationship. According to the FBI, a woman is battered every 15 seconds. 2-4 million American women are abused each year. Nearly half of the men who abuse their female partners, also abuse their children.
