The Causes and Consequences of Islamophobia

All the research and polls simply show how Muslims are facing a great hatred from their societies that they are living in, and how serious the discrimination against them is. .
Mentioning all above, Islamophobia might be thought to be merely a result of Islamic terrorism, yet, another question can be asked, "Is terrorism a Muslim monopoly?" This question was raised and answered by Dr. Zakir Naik in a long lecture. Naik states that terrorism is not a Muslim monopoly, neither any religion (peace tv, n.d). Naik points out that it is repeatedly said that not all Muslims are terrorists but all terrorists are Muslims, which, Naik believes, is not true at all (peace tv, n.d). This claim, I believe, is a logical one. According to all the holy books of all the main religions of today's world, killing innocent people is not justified at all. Islam does not promote violence either. Many counterexamples can justify this answer. Thinking of the terrorist actions in the 19th century, you will hardly find a Muslim terrorist action. Many examples can be mentioned to clarify that terrorism is not promoted merely by any religion. Thinking of the most terrorist figures ever, Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin who killed millions of people come to be the most terrorist figures in the human history, they both were Christians. Providing people with those chosen terrorist figures of the 19th century can imply that all the terrorists in the 19th century were Christians, while they definitely were not. However, this is exactly the same misunderstanding going on these days with Islam. In short, terrorism is not a Muslim, neither any religion monopoly.
Another perspective has been represented by Imam Shaheed, Islamic scholar an Imam at the United Muslims mosque, saying that he does not affirm this term, Islamophobia, because, he believes, this term is a term that media and mainstream in America create. Based on some studies and researches Islamophobia has been created and advertised by media.
