The Evolution of Engineering Technology


The Industrial Revolution was a big time of change. During this time, the field began to expand because of the development of new technologies. It led to a higher demand of people in the workforce and a growth in the amount of jobs in the field. Between the years 1992 to 2005, every job in the field grew by the thousands and it continues to grow to this day (Basta 23). This growth helps to show the greater amount of respect the career has received over the years and the social change it has endured. .
             Not only has the popularity of working in the field increased, but so has the notoriety of the career by citizens all over the world. When engineering first started, most people did not know the difference between a scientist and an engineer. Engineers started to become more known for their work after The Second World War and The Vietnam time period. "The weapons used in Vietnam were often blamed on engineers along with all the pollution and all the woes of modern industry" (Mraz). Even though they were blamed for the issues of modern weapons and pollution, they became much more known in these time periods. The fact the engineers became better known allowed them to gain more respect than they ever had before. .
             In other countries, engineers are known differently than they are in the United States. In Germany, they are seen with a high honor. When an engineer is addressed, the word engineer is used before their name. This change was supposed to be brought about in America, but it never happened. In the past, only wealthy countries had engineering. Today other countries are teaching more and more engineering education to students all across the world (Pratt). The expansion of the field in other countries helps to show the social change of engineering. It helps to show how the field is becoming more and more known in other countries all over the world.
             Over the years, the types of people who work in this profession has changed.
