He also goes on to say "we should be giving British people the first crack at the 800,000 jobs taken up by EU workers." Now therein lies the problem: not only does this whole idea sound like an official form of discrimination through lack of employment opportunity, but - and this has been pointed out to Mr Farage many times - this little scheme of his would cause the number of migrants per annum to decrease significantly.
Of course for some, this may sound like the perfect idea - maybe we should all vote UKIP in the next election. However, as Mr Farage cares to leave out, the lack of immigrant workers would cripple Britain, not only in the literal way of fewer workers for the jobs British people don't want to do (another problem with the state of Britain) but also in more qualified professions, as Dr Clare Gerada points out: "Around 30% of doctors and 40% of nurses are born abroad" It seems to me that immigrants are essential to Britain in that they are part of the infrastructure. Therefore to suggest that they are in any way less important the "British" people is quite literally the ignorant ramblings of a bigoted fool. Even if you are in the unfortunate mindset of agreeing with Mr Farage and his conjuration of utter nonsense, then it seems likely, you have been fooled by his persuasion of Britain being "better" off. I sincerely hope the next bit of suggested legislation sways you in some way: he has the audacity to suggest that prisoners should have their right to vote removed, I feel strongly that a prisoner has to feel like a member of society - a person who will be affected by changes on release - and to suggest that they have not got the right to vote because "that's what losing your liberty means", is nonsensical. What is gained by denying prisoners such a basic right? It's not as if the criminals can vote for a party that will give them access to more criminal activity (although UKIP seems to be going down this path).
