Starting school at 7:20 am Monday through Friday is not really my thing. I am not a morning person and middle and high school was just miserable to me because they felt it was necessary to start school at 7:20. Which had to be part of the reason my homework was never done, I just did not want to be there that early. Studies show that a person's brain is not fully functional till 10 in the morning. So why would school districts have classes start almost three hours before. When I graduated high school all my teachers cared about was the scores on the standardized tests that determine their salary. In my opinion that is not why they got into teaching in the first place. If we start school so early how do the teachers and administrators expect us to do well on these tests? So now that I am in college I love the fact that I can pick my own schedule to a degree. I can start classes at noon if I wanted to or I can just do night classes. Now that I can pick my own schedule I am starting to like school more and my homework habits have started to improve. .
High school is a time to improve many skills, whether it is in sports or in study habits, many students improve and excel in these needed skills. During freshman year like I said before I never studied and focused more on color guard, but once guard was over and my parents finally checked my grades I had gotten in so much trouble. After that happened they had put me in after school tutoring and I was not allowed to leave school until my homework was done. They had finally cracked the whip on me. I had done so well in middle school that they had not had to check anything. When my parents started to get emails from my high school teachers then they started to get concerned and made me stay late at school. Now that I am in charge of my future and I am not in high school anymore I realize that it is very important to study and to stay late at school to do homework and study.
