1. Introduction.
This case study talks about the issues faced by a shipping industry accounting team after the merger of three accounting firms. The managing partners of the new firm agreed to decentralize the business and decided to have teams operating in different cities across the country in order to 'leverage the synergies of collective knowledge'. This led to the formation of a new shipping industry accounting team where the narrator based in Boston had to work with three other accounting professionals located in Miami, Seattle and Los Angeles. Issues surfaced after they were tasked to submit joint monthly reports and develop a new strategic plan to attract more business. The purpose of this report is to discuss the major issues involved in the new firm's accounting team through the lens of the Organisational Behaviour (OB) theories, concentrating specifically on team processes, communication, conflict in workplace and organisational change. Data for this report is drawn from the case study, textbook, periodicals, articles and academic journal articles. This report will then make recommendations on how the new firm's accounting team can work more effectively to improve team performance and achieve organisational success. .
2. Team Processes .
Upon merger of the firms, the management decided to retain the offices in their original locations. This decision, which initially intended to add advantages in the new organisation, has indirectly developed a virtual team for the new shipping accounting team.
