OCD - Obsessive Compulsion Disorder

If he does he has to do it all over again. Everything in his apartment has to be facing in a certain direction. Either everything is facing northwest or southeast. These directions are very good and southwest is very bad. If he does not do his rituals he believes that something bad will happen to him and that it is bad luck. OCD has a huge impact on a person's life. It can cause a person to become self-reserved and never want to leave their house for fear that something bad is going to happen to them. People will go around their house checking everything from doors and windows to household appliances making sure the doors and windows are locked, all appliances are unplugged, the stove is off, etc. Some conditions of OCD are more severe than others.
There are studies that show that OCD can come about during the perinatal period. When a woman becomes pregnant her hormones are different than if she is not pregnant. Serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain, has been known as a link cause for the development of OCD. "In addition to serotonin, estrogen, progesterone, and oxytocin are also thought to be involved in OCD onset. The reproductive hormones estrogen, progesterone, and oxytocin are significantly increased during pregnancy. Evidence has revealed that fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone, occurring in late pregnancy, may alter serotonin transmission, reuptake, and binding." (Johnson 2013) The onset of OCD is likely because of such a sudden and drastic change in these hormones. For instance when a woman becomes pregnant her hormone levels go up and her body changes. It was found that there is a direct link between OCD severity and a person's oxytocin levels. Many who are pregnant develop OCD because they begin to worry about what could or what would happen to their newborn child. The stress of all the worrying is what is seen to cause OCD in in the partner of the pregnant woman.
