A Look at Domestic Violence

The second result of domestic violence is battered women and what they have to deal with then they are being abused. When a woman is abused it could lead to t her being threatened with physical harm, sexual abuse or even killed. At the same time it could also lead to abused women trying to fight back by killing the man abusing them. This is what is known as battered woman syndrome, when a woman kills her husband, boyfriend or ex-boyfriend in an attempt to stop the abuse they are in. Although, a New Jersey statute establishes that a defendant is not excused for committing a criminal act affecting a abuser unless the threat of coercion exists to such a point that a person of reasonable firmness in his situation would have been unable to resist(Million 2005). Women who go through battered women syndrome believe that they are the ones at fault when they are being abused, have low self-esteem and still believe the abuser when he tells her he will never hit her again. This will lead her to having posttraumatic stress or even having trouble forming new relationships if she ever leaves the abuser. Fortunately, Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) is an organization that helps prevent sexual assault to help victims over the phone or online. .
Child abuse and neglect is another result of domestic violence. Child abuse happens when a parent or guardian fails to take care of the child which would lead to the child having either physical, sexual, emotional harm or even cause them to die. Child neglect happens when a parent or guardian fail to provide a child with food, clothes, education, and also verbally insult them. Both abuse and neglect is a complex phenomenon that encompasses such individual factors as a parent's lack of understanding of child development, and environmental factors like poverty (Donnelly 1992). Administration for Children and Families (ACF) is a group that helps children and their family with different programs such as welfare, adoption agencies and childcare for abused children.
