Significance of the Study.
The primary purpose of this study is to determine the level of reading competencies among Grade 8 students in the selected School in Batangas Province. The result of this study will benefits to the ff.: teachers, parents, students, researchers, and the future researchers.
For the teachers, this study will help them in preparing appropriate strategies and approach to be applied in their teaching to those students who have difficulties in reading. Likewise it will help them in choosing and preparing instructional materials appropriate for students' level of competencies.
For the parents, this study will inform them of their child's reading problems. Moreover, they can help their children by providing them various reading materials that will improve their reading competencies.
For the students, this study will make them realize that they need to have reading competencies more specifically on their phonological awareness, lexical and syntactic skills and in their proficiency in language.
For the researchers, they will serve as springboard to design better method that will help the students improve their reading.
For the future researchers, this study may serve as their reference and guide on their research work and other related studies in English. .
CHAPTER II.
REVIEW OF LITERATURE.
This chapter covers the related literature about the typical reading difficulties derived from several reading materials found in the encyclopedia, foreign and local books, internet source and other reading materials.
Conceptual Literature.
This section involves the conceptual literature which poses the ideas and concepts which aided the researchers to formulate conceptual ideas that is related to the study.
The reading difficulties in the Philippines hinder the students' improvement in other necessary skills in language. The individuals who have a conflict in reading vary greatly in the specific skills they are lacking; while each individual is unique, certain problems commonly occur.
