Steroid Use in Professional Sports

They must prove to be worthy of the million dollar contracts they are given or can receive with great performance. We all know about these pressures through our everyday work lives however we can't cheat just to attain those lofty goals. In doing so, we may make the organization or our bosses happy but how about our fellow co-workers who are struggling to reach those levels fairly? They now risk being looked down upon, having their salary reduced or possibly being relieved of their duties because it is now perceived that they are underachieving. Steroid use in professional sports is bad because of the after effects it has on the history of the game and the youth who will follow in years to come. I played organized sports for years and many of our idols as young boys were the star NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB players who we watched perform at levels higher than their peers. These record breaking athletes are the focal point on networks such as ESPN, sports magazines, newspapers and conversation amongst our friends. Many of the high school and college players today choose jersey numbers of their favorite players, train like them and even mimic their style in hopes of being just like them one day. Our parents even encourage us to follow these players who are role models to so many kids around the world. When these same players decide to take PEDs to enhance their performance it sends a bad message. The message being sent to kids is that you can't reach optimal levels without using steroids.
Many elite professional athletes have taken PED's, achieved world-wide recognition and received millions of dollars as a result of their performance. How bad can steroid use truly be? Sure, shame may follow, but it is all too soon forgotten when another great performance occurs which masks that so called "error in judgment". The young fans that idolize these players do not see the repercussions of steroid use.
