First of all, genetically modified foods have a better taste due to the fact that the genes can be altered in order to make them more satisfactory to humans' taste buds. Some people may afraid that GM fruits will ruin the tastes, but everyman has a different taste, and GM fruits will expand people's choices when they buy foods. As a cross-breeding plant instead of a GM plant, Gala apple tree was created from a cross between a Golden Delicious and a Kidd's Orange Red. Nowadays, Gala apples are popular in the markets and no one worries about the safety problem. In a like manner, GM foods use genetically engineering which is simpler and more easily to succeed to crossbreed plants. For instance, as "Scientific American" reported, a new kind of tomato modified contains a geraniol, a rose-smelling flavor gene from lemon basil won a taste test against regular tomatoes during a blind test(Minkel). Of 37 testers, 60 percent of them preferred the flavor of the GM tomatoes without knowing which one was GM tomato (Minkel). As we can see, GM foods have advantages in flavors over conventional foods.
Therefore, I personally suggest giving GM foods to patients with anorexia or children who dislike vegetables or fruits in order to stimulate their appetites. As a matter of fact, as a child, I only liked eating meat, cookies and candy but not veggies and fruits. And I believe many parents nowadays are still looking for the methods to get their children to eat veggies and fruits. So, if we can genetically modify the veggies or fruits to the flavor that children like, they will enjoy eating veggies and thus have a healthier diet. Therefore, we can conclude that tasty GM foods will have a promising future. .
Some genetically modified foods, particularly fruits and veggies, not only have better tastes but also have a longer shelf life than natural products. It is troublesome to find the fruits or veggies rotting after few days since I bought them.
