Methods of Defining Psychology

Hence, it will be no surprise that, when science is not enough, practitioners use their intuition to help people. In the same way as physicians existed long before the principles of blood circulation were understood and frequently based their interventions in theories without confirmation, psychologists sometimes convert their intuitions in theories that later give origin to 'schools.' There are many of these schools that attempt to furnish some principles to the clinical psychologist's labour. Older ones have themselves originated branches that contribute to the variety of approaches that can be observed in the treatment of psychologically disturbed people. .

Educational psychologists help pupils with learning problems and give counsel on curriculum and career choice. Industrial psychologists help people to work together, and deal with aspects such as motivation and job satisfaction. .
             2. Name four different levels of explanation of relevance to a psychologist (e.g., habits, cultural influences). Put them in order from the most 'internal' to the most 'external'.
             Habits.
As humans, we get used to things. Something that is new and incredibly exciting can become boring. This tendency to have decreased responsiveness to something is habituation (you might also hear someone say that you get habituated to something). For example, there may be a painting or picture you really like so you put it on the wall in your room. You see this picture every day, 10 times a day. Over time and repeated exposures to this picture you might start feeling like you've "seen it a million times" and it just doesn't have the same effect on you that it used to. This is habituation.
             Emotion and Cognition .
When we experience an event or action, we interpret it with respect to our personal goals and well-being.
